How to improve internet connection at home

Do you have little Wifi coverage in some areas of your house? Maybe there are places where you do not have a network? Do you suddenly lose your connection and the website you are visiting falls down? Do you need to improve your connection? We offer four simple tips that you can put into practice in your home easily and quickly, and that will make you enjoy a stable and robust connection in any corner.

Beyond the usual and apparent recommendations, such as placing the router in a central location of the house so that the signal is distributed more evenly or placing the antennas correctly, you can follow some indications that will improve your connection without losing much time:

1: Update your router’s firmware

2: Connect to less-collapsed channels

3: Use the network cable whenever you can

4: If you still have problems, learn about PLC-Powerline technology

Tip 1: Update your router’s firmware

The firmware is an internal program of the devices that control its operation. Updating the firmware can help a router to work better and, sometimes, can even repair an annoying failure or add support for a faster internet connection. Therefore, it is essential to make sure that the firmware of your router is always updated.

The generic steps to manually update the firmware of a router would be *:

  1. Check the specific router model we have.
  2. Search the Internet for the most up-to-date firmware for that router, and download it.
  3. Carry out the update following the steps of the manufacturer.

Tip 2: Connect to less-collapsed channels

Sometimes in the administration page from your router, there is an option called ‘ Control Channel ‘ ( Control of chain). It serves to choose one of the channels in which your router can operate. Typically, the router can automatically configure the best avenue for our network according to the congestion of each one, but there are some that do not allow us to do that, so we will have to do it manually. This option will enable us to see a map with the saturation of the channels to choose the one that best suits our needs.

Several applications analyze the status of channels around you and tell you what channel you are on and what is the recommended one with which you can improve your connection.

Tip 3: Use the network cable whenever you can

One of the advantages of WiFi connection is to connect our phones, tablets, etc. to the network without the need to spend data on our rate while we are at home. But both connected devices reduce the potential of the wireless connection. Therefore, using the WiFi network instead of the network cable or LAN can reduce the speed of the connection. And, therefore, make specific services slower, such as video calls and online games.

In this way, whenever a device has an Ethernet port, it is advisable to connect it by cable directly to the router, so that the signal it receives is always the most powerful (for example, many laptops can connect to the Internet both by cable as per WiFi).

Tip 4: Finally, learn about PLC technology

If none of the above suggestions has served to improve your Internet connection, PLC-Powerline technology can be your solution.

This technology uses the household electrical network to provide a fast and secure Internet connection in any corner. Each outlet will be a point of Internet transmission, both by cable and by WiFi. It will allow you to take advantage of all the power of the Internet contracted right where you need it. It is ideal for houses with thick walls that do not allow a smooth flow of the WiFi network, in homes with more than one floor, or in apartments with a patio or terrace where there are points where the signal does not reach or is non-existent.
