Horror game Agony Unrated has disappeared from the Steam library

Agony Unrated is a survival horror game about a soul looking for someone named “Red Goddess” to escape from Hell. The game’s portrayal of the gore and violence of hell reaches a very high level (such as the heavenly equality of the heart in the opening scene), causing many adults to be psychologically unacceptable as well, and for this reason, the game was officially made into two versions, the normal version and the unrated version (or uncensored version). However, players recently discovered that the unrated version, which was released in 2018, is no longer available in the Steam library, suggesting “technical and legal reasons”.

Agony Unrated, the “adult” version of the horror game Agony, is gradually disappearing from the Steam libraries of players who had purchased it in a bundle. More than that, it’s disappearing completely from the entire platform.

Unlike other games that have been delisted, thanks to Valve’s decision, there’s not even an option to re-download the game on PC, meaning the title is gone from the service forever.

Developer Madmind Studio said it doesn’t yet know what led to the decision, but said that “games with similar themes” often have trouble establishing themselves on Steam. A representative said the company is already in contact with Valve employees to find a solution that “satisfies everyone.

Agony Unrated’s development process was already rife with conflict with the platform: before launch, the project was canceled due to “technical and legal issues.”

Weeks later, however, it was still listed in the platform’s library and has since been distributed as a bonus to those who purchased the original game.

Users are very angry and blame the developer

According to SteamDB data, Agony Unrated was removed from Steam’s databases on February 16 this year. While the unrated version could still be purchased individually for a few days, the page dedicated to it was also removed from the platform shortly after.

The situation caused outrage among buyers, with most comments from the game community on Steam accusing Madmind of being responsible for the situation. Some comments point out that the problem might be related to the age rating of the “uncensored” version in some parts of the world; in Germany, for example, the game is not allowed to be sold at all.

This is logical because Agony Unrated has content that is not suitable for every audience. What did you guys expect? Before you start developing a game like this and release it, you have to check the rules of the game, otherwise, these things will happen.

The dissatisfaction of those who bought Agony Unrated is also understandable, because how could they not feel taken advantage of? It’s understandable, and even more so when you consider how many cases there have been where supposed developers have absconded with the money, as with DayZ, Ashes of Creation, and well, I still maintain that Star Citizen is the gaming world’s great Ponzi scheme.

As for Agony Unrated, the company says it will continue to work on ways to resolve the situation and will soon post updates on its community pages and its official Discord. Meanwhile, Agony – a game with demonic characters and strong (if not as explicit) sexual content – continues to sell well, as does its spinoff Succubus.
