Google has announced that it plans to close its goo.gl. links shortening service after a few years. In just a few days it will not be possible to create new connections, but for the next year, it will be possible to manage the existing ones. The giant from Mountain View encourages you to use other services of this type, such as the FDL.
Google closes its Link Shortcut Service
Goo.gl is a service that was launched in 2009. Over the next few years, the famous link shortener has seen many new features, such as support for third-party APIs, the ability to create QR codes or links for smartphone apps with iOS and Android, a wide selection of which you will find in the shops. Unfortunately, the giant from Mountain View is going to kill the service.
Google has announced that it will not be possible to create new links using goo.gl. After 13 April this year. What will happen to the existing ones? These will be available and manageable for a limited period. The links you create will never actually stop working. Unfortunately, after 30 March 2019 access to the goo.gl console will no longer be possible.
Google encourages you to use other similar services and recommends Firebase Dynamic Links (FDLs) or alternative Bit.ly or Ow.ly. There is nothing left to do but to accept the company’s decision and start using other solutions of this type.
