Already we have commented on several occasions, one of the new features that would bring Google Chrome 66 flagship: the automatic blocking of the tabs with sound. So auto play videos would no longer be a headache.
Google Chrome turns off the feature that automatically blocks sounds
An interesting dynamic, which promised to become “intelligent”, as it would learn from the user’s browsing habits. However, the long-awaited update of this version of Chrome has caused a serious problem: it left web video games without sound.
This has caused discomfort among users and developers (as can be seen in this link), so the Google team announced that they will remove the update momentarily. The idea is to give developers using the Web Audio API time to update their video games to support the dynamic that Google Chrome will implement.
According to their shared plans, they plan to re-deploy this feature in October of this year, at the launch of version 70 of Google Chrome. We will see if this is enough time for the thousands of applications and video games affected to be modified, without losing potential or damaging their operation.
So if we don’t want to be distracted by autoplay videos, we’ll have to block them manually, using the feature that’s built into Google Chrome 64.
