GIGABYTE introduces the Xeon MU71-SU0 and MD71-HB0 motherboards

From the wealth of AMD related announcements, GIGABYTE has announced a pair of Intel motherboards for workstation and server board users. The GIGABYTE MU71-SU0 is designed for the Intel Xeon W-3200 processor family and is based on the Single Socket C621 chipset. The other model is the GIGABYTE MD71-HB0, which features two sockets on the C622 chipset and supports Intel’s Scalable Xeon processor product stack.

Starting with the GIGABYTE MU71-SU0, the Intel Single Socket C621 model has many workstation features designed for use with the Intel Xeon W-3200 processors, from 8-core models to 28-core options. The flexible Intel C621 chipset benefits from support for the AVX-512, the Intel VROC RAID and especially the MU71-SU0, which features an ASPEED AST2500 remote management controller.

The motherboard has six full-length PCIe 3.0 x16 slots and half a PCIe 3.0 slot locked to x4. It also includes a single PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 slot with two Slim SAS connectors that provide eight STA ports supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 arrays.

There are eight memory slots that support both 64GB RDIMMs and 128GB LRDIMMs, with a maximum speed of DDR4-2933 in hex channel mode and up to 2TB with high memory, Xeon-W ‘M’ processors.

The MD71-HB0, the second of GIGABYTE’s latest professional mobile phones, is a dual-socket server model designed for use with Intel’s Xeon Scalable processor family, offering a higher feature set than its single-socket counterpart.

The feature set includes twelve memory slots with support for 64GB RDIMM and 128GB LDRIMM at speeds up to DDR4-2933 and, like other C622 and C621 chipsets, uses hex channel memory configurations.

Both models feature similar designs with a blue PCB, blue memory slots and unreinforced PCIe slots. GIGABYTE has not yet shared pricing or availability, but both the GIGABYTE MD71-HB0 and MU71-SU0 are expected to become part of GIGABYTE’s other server offerings. We will keep you informed.
