Nvidia has recently announced that it will release another GTX 1060, the version with GP104 core and GDDR5X memory, and now we’re starting to see the first models. One of them is the Gigabyte G1 Gaming 6GB model recently launched by the brand.
It has GDDR5X type memory, and although the Gigabyte page doesn’t indicate its frequencies, it indicates the bandwidth that we can assume its memory is at 8000 MHz. This means that it has the same frequency as the original GDDR5 memory and even lower than the GTX 1060 9Gbps version. Anyway, this can be a mistake because, as I said, its frequency is not specified.
It is very likely that the new model includes the GP104 GPU and not the GP106, but Gigabyte does not share this information. If that’s the case, we should also ask ourselves what happens to the SLI port, because the pictures show something that looks like an SLI port.
At the moment the clock speeds and the availability date are unknown, but one could assume that this information will be passed on by the manufacturer very soon.
We could also expect many other custom graphics card manufacturers to start introducing their own models with GDDR5X memory and perhaps start replacing the current ones with GDDR5 memory modules.
