Google has just announced the launch of the office productivity application suite G Suite Enterprise Edition. Building on the commercial version, G Suite Enterprise provides additional access control, data protection for Google Drive and Gmail, as well as improved Gmail analytics. These enhancements empower enterprise customers with better control and visibility of sensitive data, reducing barriers to the adoption of G Suite.
G Suite Enterprise Edition: What’s New from Google?
With rapid deployments and low total cost of ownership, cloud services are ideal for businesses. However, enterprise customers are often concerned about security as their data is stored on external servers. To address these concerns, Google now offers improved access control for administrators by requiring the use of security keys in addition to two-step verification.
This security measure not only enhances ease of use but also provides protection against common attacks like phishing, making it more secure than before. Administrators can now enforce the use of security keys in the login process, strengthening enterprise information security.
In addition to access control, G Suite also enhances data security. Towards the end of the previous year, Google introduced Team Drives for business customers, offering fine-grained access control. However, it lacked Gmail’s DLP (Data Loss Protection) function, which allows companies to store essential data on the disk without any concerns.
G Suite Enterprise Edition: Includes DLP and MIME Encryption
G Suite Enterprise Edition deploys DLP (Data Loss Prevention) across the network, enabling administrators to enhance the security of sensitive data and exercise greater control over data storage and sharing. DLP scans all files on the network, even images within documents using OCR technology to identify documents containing sensitive information. Additionally, G Suite provides S/MIME encryption for Gmail to safeguard data exchanges with other email services.
This upgrade also incorporates BigQuery integration for Gmail log analysis, allowing administrators to perform custom queries, analyze Gmail data, and develop dashboards. Furthermore, G Suite Enterprise Edition offers third-party integration for mail archiving, enabling companies to archive mail externally, with integration options like HP Autonomy or Veritas for external mail archiving.
As G Suite continues its journey toward enterprise adoption, it continuously enhances and upgrades its offerings to ensure success at scale.
