Flashtec has officially introduced its new NVMe 3016 driver for PCI Express 4.0 x8 SSDs but this interface is not yet available to the general public.
The company itself says that the controller will be capable of speeds of up to 8GB/s. In comparison with Realtek’s latest PCI-E 3.0 x4 controller reaches only 3.5GB/s.
The announcement also mentions that sales to the partners have already begun so they can start working on products they are using. In 2019 we will certainly see the first PCI Express 4.0 SSDs.
Later this year we will see several PCI Express 4.0 related ads. Anyway, there will be no motherboards with this interface until next year.
