Far Cry 6 will feature Ray Tracing, FidelityFX CAS and Variable Rate Shading

Far Cry 6 was recently featured in the fifth episode of the Radeon RX 6000 Partner Showcase video series. The head of 3D programming at Ubisoft, Oleksandr Polishchuk, revealed that the game will be equipped with Ray Tracing, Variable Rate Shading and FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS).

Since this is part of a partnership between AMD and Ubisoft, the game was shown on the YouTube channel of the Lisa Su-owned company. The following video shows details of what gamers can expect and highlights the support for the technologies used in the new Radeon RX 6000.

Polishchuk was also responsible for presenting these innovations and explaining the technologies used in detail:

“We were very impressed with AMD’s latest technologies and joined forces to bring FidelityFX CAS, DXR Ray Tracing and Variable Rate Shading to Far Cry 6. We worked together to ensure a smooth visual experience in 4K. This requires a lot of bandwidth, storage, and a Radeon RX 6000 with Infinity Cache that can easily handle this at high FPS rates.”

“One of the new features of AMD’s GPUs is Ray Tracing DXR, which models the light rays closer to what happens in the real world. This requires complex calculations, but these graphics cards can do it without any problems. FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening delivers a cleaner, more detailed image without sacrificing performance. Async Compute allows AMD GPUs to process graphics and compute workloads simultaneously, maximizing hardware utilization and giving players more power.

Far Cry 6 will also support “Hybrid SSR” (as described in the video), which is probably a reference to FidelityFX Stochastic Screen Space Reflections (SSSR). The game will arrive on May 25, 2021 and should be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
