Facebook is developing a technology that seeks to create the most realistic avatars that will represent us in Virtual Reality environments, not only in the physical aspect but also in our expressions and other movements.
Facebook is working on a technology to get photo-realistic avatars
In this respect, the company has shown a preview of its new technology within the second day of its developer conference, F8, where it has also presented the evolution of the avatar systems it has been developing over the years, going from a generic blue face to custom 3D avatars in which you can define aspects such as hair, skin tone, eye color, among others.
But Facebook is not satisfied with what it has today, which continues to be seen as childish, and wants completely realistic virtual versions of ourselves, to represent us within the virtual spaces in which we participate, thus giving more excitement to the virtual meetings we have with our friends across the distance.
The company has not given details about its new technology, where so far it is suspected that there is a phase of movement mapping, but the results are far from credible enough, for which there is still a long way to go to turn people’s faces into digital faces quite close to reality.
Now the question is: is it time to start shaking because we’ll see what the implications of the new technology might be.
