About three years ago, Facebook made it possible for users to work together by reporting articles that could be considered wrong, although it soon became clear that some users are more than just working together to deceive the platform for some reason, either because they disagree with the information themselves or, in the worst case, because they are trolling.
Well, according to a new Washington Post report, Facebook gives users a score between zero and one, a credibility rating that aims to give more importance to users who actually report fake articles than to those who tend to indiscriminately mark each article as fake.
In this way, the algorithms can determine whether an article marked as counterfeit deserves a thorough check or if so, downplay the low credibility it has given the user based on its past by marking it as a counterfeit article that was finally identified as true by the verification process.
Little is known about this credibility assessment and it remains to be seen whether it will be available to all users and when this system was used, says VentureBeat.
