Excel begins to integrate Artificial Intelligence functions

Microsoft wants the platform to provide additional information automatically when adding formulas and entries in general, for the time being, related to actions and geographic data such as city, state, and country names (but also zip codes).

As an example: if we have a list of cities in an Excel spreadsheet, the platform will know that we are talking about cities, and it will be able to obtain information from Microsoft’s search engine (Bing) to show population and other data. For actions, Excel may also collect financial data on a company.

It’s just two features to start with, but they won’t stop there. They told TC that this is an example of what they can do: as we write, Excel will be looking at the search engine to generate information that might be useful.

The new feature is located in the data’ tab of Excel, which now includes a new function to transform cells into these new data types. If Excel does not know what to do with your data, it will ask you to choose.

The new version of Excel with support for these new data types is now available as a preview in Office 365 Insiders but will reach everyone shortly.
