EVGA iCX2 cooling system with RTX cards will be released

New cooling systems needed with the introduction of the new Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics cards, which increase the power requirements compared to the GTX 10 series. The manufacturer EVGA has already thought of everything, with the new iCX2 air cooling technology.

EVGA’s iCX2 cooling technology is used for the first time with GeForce RTX graphics cards, and here is an overview of the heat dissipation improvements.

EVGA’s patented iCX revolutionized the cooling of graphics cards from the inside out. iCX was developed to detect “hot spots” on the graphics card and automatically cool them by controlling the fan speed. All temperature information and more could be viewed from the Precision XOC application.

Lower temperatures and noise levels

iCX2 promises improved temperature detection at multiple points on the graphics card and sets the fans asynchronously. This results in a better thermal behavior. But that’s not all, the iCX2 also promises to reduce fan noise at full power.

The aluminum plate design has been adapted to improve conductivity by 150% according to EVGA. A heat pipe that runs directly across the VRM area is also used to quickly dissipate heat from the hottest part of the graphics card. iCX2 has heat pads that conduct 165% more heat than the original iCX.

The fans are now Hydraulic Dynamic Bearing type, called HDB, which promise to improve the noise level and emit more air (which they all promise).

Cooling capacity comparison

EVGA compares the RTX 2080 Ti and RTX 2080 cards with the new iCX to the GTX 1080 Ti and GTX 1080, the results seem pretty convincing. All information on this new technology can be found on the official EVGA website.

Initially, the GeForce RTX series will be officially released on September 20 and EVGA will be one of the manufacturers who will have their models available from day one.
