In 2016, the Home button received special attention – not because of its slow disappearance, but because of “Error 53”. Because of this unsightly mistake, Apple is now being asked to pay in Australia. The company was fined $9 million by the federal court following a lawsuit filed by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that ACCC Commissioner Sarah Court stood up for the lawsuit. According to Court, Apple refused and did not compensate Australian customers for third-party service. There was no compensation from Apple if “unauthorized repairs” were carried out. These could only show the screen exchange after a crack. According to the Court, this happens “to all of us from time to time”.
If the ACCC is to be followed, every customer and user should be aware of this.
Replacement of the screen and other repairs should be carried out by third parties, as long as the underlying system of the device is not damaged.
