Dyslexia is a problem that makes reading difficult for people. Because dyslexic people tend to change the order of letters, syllables, and even words, reading can be quite a complicated and strenuous task. For this reason, Helperbird has attracted our attention, an extension that replaces all fonts on a website with OpenDyslexic, a font specifically designed to make reading easier for dyslexics.
In general, what we liked about Helperbird was its ease of use. Once we’ve downloaded and installed the extension, all we need to do is activate it to replace the sources of the websites we visit with OpenDyslexic. Since we can disable the extension with a single click, it will not be affected if we share the computer with other users.
Finally, while the extension has some additional payment features, its main feature is available free of charge. As for the premium features, we are happy to use Helperbird in Google Docs and have a button to disable Helperbird on certain websites (e.g. those whose source doesn’t make it difficult for us to read).
Considering the ease of use of the extension, we are sure that it will be an interesting resource for many people with dyslexia. If you are dyslexic or know someone with this problem, we recommend you take a look at the Helperbird website and download the extension from the Chrome Web Stor.
