Artificial intelligence is advancing by leaps and bounds in recent years, as evidenced by the fact that Google has been showing an artificial intelligence assistant called “Duplex”, which can call people and interact with them naturally, just as a human being would.
Duplex is an artificial intelligence capable of impersonating a human being
Google CEO Sundar Pichai showed how the bot at the IO, Duplex conference could summon people and book an appointment for hairdressers. The assistant went through the whole booking process, without the person on the other side of the call noticing that he was talking to a robot, Duplex even used pauses and “ums” and “mmm-hmms” to sound more human, which is impressive and demonstrates the great progress that is being made in the field of artificial intelligence.

Duplex is able to understand complex sentences, quick words and long comments, as well as to converse naturally and make an appointment, before sending the notification to the user to confirm the booking. This raises questions about what will happen if a bot talks to another bot and whether they should be required to identify themselves as robots at the beginning of a conversation.
Google claims it is able to build complete bots from people’s voices, the company recorded just a few phrases of the choice of popular beat comedian John Legend, which were then synthesized using artificial intelligence in a voice that could say anything and sound like the singer. This means that Duplex could have any voice, which makes it difficult to recognize when it is not a real person.
