Sony has finally unveiled the long-awaited design for the DualSense, the PlayStation 5 controller. This new gamepad features tactile feedback, adaptive triggers for L2 and R2 and a new “Create” button that replaces the old “Share” button, as well as a built-in microphone.
DualSense, the PlayStation 5 controller, finally revealed
When the PS4 was released in 2013, the DualShock 4 Wireless was highly acclaimed by gamers and developers as the best PlayStation controller to date. As a result, many of the features that made the DualShock 4 so special have been retained in its successor and new features have been added.
The introduction of Tempest 3D AudioTech technology is one of the most promising. The design has also been refined with softer and finer surfaces to make the controller look smaller than it actually is. Its grip position and angle have been slightly changed. Adaptive triggers regulate the tension according to the action performed to improve the tactile feel. The same applies to tactile feedback vibration, whose pattern and intensity changes with activity.
As for the battery, it is rechargeable and the Sony team has tried to reduce the weight without compromising autonomy. There are subtle changes to the buttons, and the built-in microphone allows us to talk hands-free without using a headset with a built-in microphone. However, the latter is still recommended for long periods of time.
The unique color design has given way to a double color palette, and the light bar has been split in two on the joysticks. A constant redesign with more than 100 different test models and test users with hands of all possible dimensions have resulted in a product of optimal ergonomics. said SHE President and CEO Jim Ryan for the community:
“DualSense marks a before and after in our controllers and covers the generation gap that the PS5 represents. This new controller, along with more innovative features in the console, will change the face of gaming. We will continue our mission to push the boundaries of gaming and set the course for the future. I would like to thank the PlayStation community for sharing this exciting journey towards the launch of PlayStation 5 in 2020. We will be sharing more information with you in the coming months.
These stories are undoubtedly excellent news as they seem to indicate that the launch of PlayStation 5 will not be delayed beyond this year and we can probably expect the console to be available by Christmas 2020 at the latest.
