According to Gizmochina, this is the third processor in the Dimensity chip series launched by MediaTek last November. Previously, the Oppo Reno3 was equipped with a 1000L Dimensity chipset.
Next year, the Taiwanese manufacturer is expected to offer the Dimensity 1000 chipset for low-cost 5G flagship models, as well as the Dimensity 800, which could be a solution to help carriers introduce 5G technology into medium and low-cost models.
In terms of hardware specifications, Dimensity 800 is manufactured using a 7nm process, including 8 cores, 4 Cortex A76 cores and 4 Cortex A55 cores. All are clocked at 2.0GHz. The chipset is equipped with the Mali G57MP4 graphics processor and comes with HyperEngine technology to enhance the gaming experience for smartphones. In addition, Dimensity 800 also drives AI tasks with AI APU 3.0 processor, which can process 2.4 TOPS.
Dimensity 800: MediaTek’s 5G processor for the mid-high range
As announced by MediaTek, Dimensity 800 can support devices with Full HD + displays, 90Hz refresh rate, lower than the 120Hz display support of Dimensity 1000, and up to 16GB of RAM. LPDDR4. The chipset also has an ISP that can integrate 4 cameras simultaneously.
In detail, Dimensity 800 can support resolutions from one camera up to 64 MP and from two cameras 32 MP + 16 MP. And yet the manufacturer also integrates AI autofocus algorithms, exposure, white balance, noise reduction and HDR to improve image quality. MediaTek claims that it is also the first manufacturer in the world to introduce a processor with multi-frame 4K HDR video recording.
In terms of 5G, Dimensity 800 supports the combination of two 2CC networks, which allows 30% more coverage than 1CC and no aggregation of carriers. In addition, the chipset is designed to support both independent and sub-6Ghz networks, supports multiple modes from 2G to 5G and features Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS).
Dimension 800 also works with services such as voice and data over 5G and is compatible with the 5G bands in Asia, Europe, and North America. Dimension promises a download speed of 3.5 Gbps and an upload speed of 1.25 Gbps. In addition, the chipset does not support two 5G simulations simultaneously.
Overall, Dimensity can be a tough competitor to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765 / 765G Duo. It is expected that Dimension 800 will appear on the model in the first half of 2020.
