Dell could be working on a desktop PC with an Intel Tiger Lake CPU

According to a recent report by Phoronix, Dell and Intel are working on the new S0ix power-saving state of the Linux kernel. This is necessary because Intel is abandoning the S03 power states in favor of this more demanding one, as it turns off certain parts of the Intel SoC that are not in use. For this reason, support for the ACPI 6.2 specifications is required.

Now the strangest thing of all is that Dell engineers have added this support for a desktop PC with a Tiger Lake processor, indicating that this product line might compete with the AMD Ryzen 4000G / 5000G APUs, which have a major limitation in graphics performance because they use the Vega architecture.

Remember that Intel has so far only launched the Tiger Lake U series for low power notebooks, in addition to confirming the 11th generation of the Rocket Lake S desktop series. As for unconfirmed hardware, next year Intel is expected to launch the 11th generation Tiger Lake H series with a higher TDP and more cores than the U series.

Anyway, and as we mentioned before, there was of course no talk until now of any of these processors ending up in a desktop computer. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if these are really Intel’s plans.
