After all the unofficial information that has emerged, we now have the official confirmation for the new Intel processor series, the Intel Core 9000 CPUs. Confirmation comes via Intel’s Microcode Review Guide. The confirmed Coffee Lake S Series is the 6-core processors; Core i5-9600(K), Core i5-9500(T) and Core i5-9400, while the Core i3-9100 and Core i3-9000 are listed with a 4-core configuration.

In general, there is an increase of 100 or 200 MHz in the maximum frequency while maintaining the same TDP, and in some cases, 100 MHz of base frequency increases with respect to Intel 8000 series CPUs. The 9600K, for example, increases the 8600K base clock by 100 MHz (up to 3.7 GHz base), but achieves 4.5 GHz in Turbo.

Intel’s strategy for its top-level i7 remains a mystery: on the one hand, Intel could maintain its 8000 series level scheme, with 6-core i7 models, but 12 threads through Hyper-Threading, thus differentiating itself from the 6-core, 6-thread i5. But recent events have made it more likely that the company is planning to introduce its i9 level to the desktop market.

For now, an 8-core, 16-wire CPU (Intel Core i9-9900K); a 6-core, 12-wire CPU (Intel Core i7-9700K); and a 6-core, 6-wire CPU (Intel Core i5-9600K) are a perfect match for the Intel Microcode Upgrade Guide and eighth-generation specification updates. We will keep you informed.
