Microsoft has prepared an enhanced experience for users of the Bing search engine with a new feature called Bing Spotlight, which uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to highlight news messages in development.
Bing Spotlight is a feature that helps users get the latest news and updates through the use of Microsoft’s AI algorithm and other relevant data that will create a much richer perspective on the news for readers.
It presents current headlines and different perspectives on the same news with major updates published on social networks and a summary of all the events surrounding the topic and its evolution over time. Of course, the AI will use Bing’s intelligent search function to deliver results from reliable sources on the web and make them available in Spotlight.
To make this possible, Bing ensures that its software monitors millions of requests and news articles throughout the day to identify the most powerful stories and their development over a given period. In this sense, the company assures in a declaration:
“We look at different user signals, such as browser queries and logs, and editor document signals, such as the number of editors covering a story, their perspective and how prominent the story is on your site. For controversial topics, we show different points of view from high-quality sources in the Perspectives module.”
While it looks like an innovative feature, Bing seems to adapt to some of the new features that have already been added to Google News. The Google News section has recently been updated to include a summary of all events for a particular newscast.
It is good to see that Bing is catching up and improving usability at least in the US where the feature has only been introduced.
