AirPods are today one of the most popular wireless headphones. Given its popularity, it’s no wonder Apple is already working on future versions. Today we start the week with some interesting news because as the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has just explained, Apple could release an updated version of the AirPods in 2019.
In particular, Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that AirPods could be wirelessly charged in the first quarter of 2019. This would not be the only change, as the company would work to update the Bluetooth specifications (probably with the decision for version 5.0). In addition, the 2019 AirPods include a new generation W chip and several internal changes to the charging case.
What’s new with Apple wireless headphones doesn’t end there. In fact, the launch of version 2019 could be followed by the launch of a completely new version of AirPods in the course of 2020. At the moment, the details of this new version are unknown, although the report says that we would see a major design change this time.
In retrospect, Apple itself mentioned that we could charge AirPods without wires when they introduced AirPower, Apple’s wireless charging station. However, since the company did not mention the base again (we don’t know if it will reach the market at the moment or not), and also, it was not known whether wireless charging via AirPods would be an option.
Thanks to Ming-Chi Kuo’s report, we know that wireless charging of AirPods is still available. Considering that Kuo was one of the first analysts to talk about the launch of the original AirPods prior to Apple’s presentation, everything seems to indicate that their sources are quite reliable.
