Apple is currently in the midst of a legal battle with Qualcomm. This has implications for the connectivity of Cupertino’s business phones, as Qualcomm provides the connectivity modems. But, for the moment, this situation is solved with an alliance with Intel. But Cupertino’s plans are to develop their own modems.
Apple plans to create its own 5G modems for the next iPhone
Little by little we are seeing how the company itself is beginning to become more independent and more and more components are being manufactured autonomously, subcontracting their production to other companies. They also want to do this with 5G modems.
This decision would lead to a significant reduction in dependency problems for its suppliers. This prevents problems with shipping, production or design of these components. In the case of 5G modems, this is a logical step for the company. The agreement with Intel is temporary, and will probably last until Apple has already created its own modems.
And with 5G connectivity getting closer and closer, the company wants to move quickly in this direction. At the moment it seems that they are already looking for engineers and personnel for the development of these components. So everything suggests that they could start to be produced this year.
At the moment we don’t know much more about Apple’s development of these 5G modems. More data will probably be revealed in a matter of weeks. Especially if the time of production approaches. So we’ll be keeping an eye on that.
