Like other companies, Apple has an affiliate program that allows users to earn small commissions by including links to applications, books, movies and songs on their websites, YouTube channels or social networks. Despite the popularity of the affiliate program, the company has suddenly announced that it will no longer offer apps from the App Store for iOS or macOS from October.
Apple closes the App Store Affiliate Program
Although the news came as a surprise, the company had already given some indications in the past. When the affiliate program was launched, Apple rewarded users with 7% for App purchases on the App Store, down from 2.5% in April last year.
As Apple explains in the announcement on its website, commissions for the purchase of iOS and Mac applications (and in-app purchases) will be completely abolished as of October 1 if they are no longer available. However, Apple emphasizes that its affiliate program will continue to work with all other content (music, movies, books, and TV programs).
This is certainly bad news for application analysis and reviewing websites that base their business model on the Apple Affiliate Program. In view of the scope of the measure, we will keep an eye on new developments in the company. For more information about the Partner Program, visit the Apple website.
