AMD will work with OEMs to update Ryzen Mobile Drivers more frequently

Users of a desktop computer with an AMD Radeon graphics card are used to receiving regular updates to improve performance. In fact, it’s rarely the time when they don’t get new software when a game comes out. However, owners of a laptop with a Ryzen Mobile APU rarely see the warning that their graphics drivers need updating, a situation that AMD will change next year.

AMD’s good intentions come after several Ryzen Mobile users have demanded more attention from the manufacturer. In a message published on Reddit, the company acknowledges that it has “room for improvement in the frequency of graphics controllers updates”, both for APUs and for low-end laptop cards. However, the company says that not everything depends on their work, as the drivers need to be adopted by each OEM (the device manufacturer) to make everything work as the person in charge of the device intends it to.

“We’re working with OEMs to increase the frequency with which graphics drivers for Ryzen mobile processors are introduced to the market,” says a Reddit spokesperson. “From 2019, we will ensure that OEMs update drivers twice a year. Since the launch ultimately depends on the OEM, this commitment may vary, but we want to set a clear goal. Updates should be available for download from the OEM’s website.

In addition, the company claims to “evaluate” opportunities to offer validated laptop graphics drivers at the same time as AMD’s latest software updates. Perhaps this would be the best solution if the manufacturer’s words are to standardize drivers in the future. The last time the Ryzen Mobile APUs were updated was in May last year.
