AMD seems to have a quiet year regarding the graphics card market. They released the 5XX series of cards, including the latest, RX 590, and certainly, nobody beats their head to get above them.
As relatively inexpensive cards, they offer a lot of power. However, it seems that at the moment Nvidia’s RTX card range does not stand out as well as expected, and in general 2019 is developing with little “hangout”, at least from a consumer point of view.
According to AMD, this could be postponed until the next year quarter. The red company thinks things will get a little worse before they get better. In a report on PCGamesN, the company said it expects that the first part of 2019 in the GPU world will be pretty “depressed”.
AMD’s CEO said that they expect low revenues in this segment “We expect it to take several quarters to resolve”. Regarding this year, and also 2019 is not optimistic. “Beyond the fourth quarter, we expect the Graphics segment to be equally impacted in the first quarter of 2019.
Su’s statements are probably correct. The RTX series was a disappointment in terms of price and it doesn’t look like it’s about to go down. They also don’t see any stratospheric leaps in performance, and AMD has nothing to tackle in the short term. In addition, it will take several months for Nvidia to launch the mid-range RTX 20, indicating that we will have several quiet months until AMD can present something interesting with Navi.
