AMD Ryzen 4000 ‘Zen 3’ will increase its clock speeds

Following the phase-out of the Ryzen 4000 series APUs (codenamed Renoir), the German media laboratory Igor’s Lab has published further information about the APUs as well as preliminary specifications for the upcoming Ryzen 4000 series desktop chips (codenamed Vermeer).

AMD Ryzen 4000 ‘Zen3’, new filtered specifications

The report assumes that Ryzen 5 4400G and Ryzen 3 4200G are the other two desktop APUs that will join the already discovered powerful Ryzen 7 4700G. According to the new information, Renoir will come with support for clock (FCLK) up to 2,000 MHz. For comparison, the maximum FCLK on AMD Ryzen 3000 series desktop processors (codenamed Matisse) is 1800 MHz or DDR4-3600 (FCLK and memory clock run in a 1:1 ratio). Theoretically, Renoir, which probably has a higher FCLK of 200 MHz, should have better memory support and benefit from higher speeds.

The Ryzen 4000 series (codenamed Vermeer) will continue to use TSMC’s 7nm FinFET process node. However, the next-generation desktop processors will be connected to AMD’s new and improved Zen 3 microarchitecture. Technical pattern (ES) specification data has emerged, and according to publication sources, the A0 steps of Zen 3 chips are already being evaluated. Although the Igor sources are quite reliable, the author advises some caution with this data.

There is a high probability that the specifications will improve with the final revisions. The basic and incremental clock rates are taken from the OPN (Ordering Part Number) codes.

The 16-core, 32 thread Zen 3 chips have a 3.7 GHz base clock and a 4.6 GHz incremental clock. The existing Ryzen 9 3950X processor has a 3.5 GHz base clock and a 4.7 GHz incremental clock. We can see an increase in the base clock by 200 MHz and a decrease of the incremental clock by 100 MHz.

The Zen 3 chips, which have 8 cores and 16 threads, seem to have a 4 GHz base clock and a 4.6 GHz incremental clock.

It is rumored that the Zen 3 desktop processors, Ryzen 4000, will be released between August and September. We will keep you informed.
