AMD Radeon Instinct MI100 could launch on November 16

The graphics accelerators Radeon Instinct MI100 seem to be available very soon. According to the latest filtered information, the new Instinct graphics card will be released on November 16th this year.

AMD Radeon Instinct MI100 could be released on November 16th

AMD is apparently ready to introduce its professional graphics card Radeon Instinct MI100, which uses a CDNA architecture. The known specifications of this graphics card are amazing:

AMD Instinct MI100 specifications:

  • Power: 34 TFLOPs of the calculation FP32
  • Memory: 32 GB HBM2 memory
  • Bandwidth: 1,225 TB/s
  • TDP: 300W

In addition to the filtered release date, we also have documentation and even a performance test that compares the Instinct MI100 with the most popular Nvidia options in the professional market, such as the V100S and A100. In the tests, we see that the Radeon Instinct MI100 offers about 13% more FP32 performance compared to the A100 from Nvidia, which is basically an amp chip. So it is a truly powerful professional graphics card that competes on a one-to-one basis with Nvidia in this segment.

The Instinct MI100 graphics card had been confirmed by AMD a few months ago, but we didn’t have much more information yet. AMD’s CTO, Mark Papermaster, had assured us that this graphics card would be released in the second half of this year, and it looks like it will.

The CDNA architecture is different from the RDNA architecture that AMD uses in its video game graphics cards (or in mining). CDNA is designed for HPC devices and non-traditional tasks that require a lot of processing power, such as AI or data analysis.

AMD also plans to launch other graphics cards for HPC, the Instinct V640, and V620.
