It’s been over a year since the Navi 21 was released, but the fourth and smallest member of the family is finally here. The Navi 24 is the entry-level GPU aimed at desktop gamers on a budget and the next generation of mid-range laptops.
AMD Navi 24 has been revealed for the first time. So far, all four members of the RDNA2 architecture family have been revealed. The largest of them, Navi 21, and the smallest, Navi 24, both have vertical core layouts, while the middle ones, Navi 22 and Navi 23, are both angled at 45 degrees.
We have already seen renders of all the RDNA GPUs developed last year: from Navi 21 to Navi 24. The existence of the next AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT with a possible 6 nm process, RDNA 2 architecture, and 4 GB GDDR6 has been confirmed.
The core area of Navi 24 is estimated to be 141 square millimeters, slightly smaller than the previous generation 7nm Navi 14 158 square millimeters, and a full 40% smaller than Navi 23, just over a quarter of the large core of Navi 21.
However, we don’t yet know the exact VRAM memory, the frequencies that will be handled, and the consumption that this RX 6500 XT will have. It is confirmed that AMD will unveil the next low-end RX 6000 family GPUs at CES 2022. The market launch is in fact more difficult to predict, but we already have pictures of this GPU.

Congratulations to the folks at VideoCardz for the leak, as they’re ahead of AMD’s announcement of the Navi 24 GPUs, which stand out for their focus on affordable gaming PCs and entry-level PCs.
As we can see, Navi 24 is a fairly small GPU, with a die size of 141mm², while Navi 14 (RDNA) had an area of 158mm². This rendering confirms that it has half as many clusters as Navi 23 (RDNA2), making a total of 16 clusters. Each cluster is equipped with 64 stream processors, giving a total of 1024 shading units (shaders).
We already said that it will have Infinity Cache and that it will be 16 MB in size and have a 64-bit wide memory controller. Navi 24 will be included in AMD RX 6500 XT and RX 6400, as we warned in previous news, which differ in 2 variants: XT and XL.
The unknowns that have yet to be discovered are:
- Manufacturing process. It is still claimed that it would be 6nm, launched together with the 6nm Rembrandt APUs.
- Memory is said to be 4 GB GDDR6, but this is unconfirmed.
- The RX 6400 would carry the XL variant, but may not be ready for sale by assemblers yet, but would only be seen by OEMs.
We know absolutely nothing about pricing, but multiple sources claim that the AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT launch will take place on January 19. More details will be announced at AMD’s CES 2022 event on January 4, 2022.
