AMD has released some performance data for its next Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX processor, which is the top of the 32-core, 64-thread series and demonstrates its superiority over Intel’s most powerful chip.
Threadripper 2990WX is 53% faster than the Intel Core i9-7980XE in the Cinebench R15 tests
Today, Intel’s main processor X299 is the i9-7980XE. This CPU has about 18 cores and is currently sold at a similar price to the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX ($1799), giving AMD a significant advantage in both the number of cores and the number of threads.
AMD France has released information about the performance of the Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX processor, showing a Cinebench R15 score of 5,099 points. This number offers a 53% performance advantage over the Intel Core i9-7980XE, which has 3,335 points in stock.
Both tests were performed with similar hardware configurations, Samsung 850 Pro SSDs, 4x8GB DDR4 memory at 3200MHz, a GTX 1080 graphics card and the same 64-bit version of Windows 10.
Assuming this Cinebench score and the price as we know it is right, AMD will hit the Intel hardware line pretty hard and offer much more value for money than its competitors, more cores, and much more performance, especially when it comes to multi-thread operations.
AMD Ryzen thread cutters 1900, 1900X, 1920, 1950 are unveiled.
This should also cause Intel to react, which will lead to sharp price cuts on its current i9-7980XE and all its younger brothers. It won’t be long before we see how true these figures are in tests by trade journals and private users.
