AMD completes the new generation of SoCs codenamed “Cato”. The chips appeared in the screenshots of UL Benchmarks (Futuremark) SystemInfo, in three models: RX-8125, RX-8120 and A9-9820.
AMD Cato Family
For the uninitiated, the RX Series embedded processors are part of the company’s Ryzen Embedded family. The RX Series differs from the A Series in its microarchitecture, lack of an unlocked multiplier or other features such as integrated graphics.
Right now, the origin of these ”Cato” processors is a mystery. This is what could be the case with a CPU configuration of 4 cores/8 threads with SMT enabled. Another theory assumes that it is new silicon, based on a new IP, and 8 cores.
Continuing on to the chips stack, an RX-8125 with “8 logical processors” and a nominal clock frequency of 2.30 GHz with a boost frequency of about 2.40 GHz. The RX-8120 has a similar CPU configuration, but with significantly lower clock rates of 1.70 GHz core and 1.80 GHz gain. Finally, there is the A9-9820, a complete APU with integrated “Radeon RX 350” graphics. What gives this chip an A-series marker is probably the lack of an unlocked multiplier.
The presence of these processors in the UL benchmarks indicates that their announcement could take place in the coming months.
