The latest GPU submission report for the third quarter of 2018 was published by Jon Peddie, who is already a classic researcher of recent years. On this occasion, AMD receives an increase in revenue compared to its competitor NVIDIA, while Intel led with the majority of GPU deliveries. However, PC GPU sales alone were down 19.21%.
In the third quarter of 2018, the total number of GPU deliveries increased by 10.64% compared to the previous quarter. In the same quarter, AMD increased GPU shipments by 6.5%, NVIDIA by 4.3% and Intel by 13.1%. When we talk about each other’s market share, we see that AMD and NVIDIA decreased by -0.6% and -0.97%, respectively, while Intel’s increased by 1.5%.
Total deliveries of AMD units increased by 6.51% quarter-on-quarter, Intel’s by 13.11% quarter-on-quarter and Nvidia’s by 4.32%.
The connection rate from GPUs (including integrated and discrete GPUs) to PCs was 141% for the quarter, an increase of 3.08% over the previous quarter.
31.61% of computers had discrete GPUs, a decrease of -3.54% compared to the previous quarter.
The overall PC market grew 8.22% quarter-on-quarter and 0.30% year-on-year.
Desktop Graphics Card (AIB) with discrete GPUs decreased by -19.21% compared to the previous quarter.
The main factor behind the sales increase was notebooks, where GPU shipments increased by 7%, while desktop graphics declined by 16%. Total GPU shipments for the year decreased by 2.2% year-on-year. All eyes point to the demise of crypto mining.
