Magic Leap and Sennheiser launch the Ambeo AR One Mixed Reality headphones for the Magic Leap One headset. These accessories make it possible to selectively mix virtual sound with the sound of the user’s real environment.
Mixed reality consists of mixing reality and virtual. While headphones like the Magic Leap One do this optically very well, this is not quite the case with audio. To solve this problem, Sennheiser and Magic Leap present the AMBEO AR One in-ear headphones: the first accessory to receive official Magic Leap certification.
These new types of headphones allow you to combine virtual 3D sound with the user’s real acoustic environment. Thanks to Sennheiser’s “Transparent Hearing” noise reduction technology, some specific sounds are filtered out of the real world while others are perceived.
With the accompanying application “AMBEO Augmented Audio Lab”, developers of mixed-reality applications can choose which real sounds recorded by the built-in microphone of the headphones to integrate into the spatial sound experience. This will make it possible to use the sound of the real world as a resource to create new types of mixed/augmented reality experiences.
Likewise, users of the application can record sounds from their environment to mix them with sound loop benches. Several loop banks are suggested by default in the application. One of them was created by beatboxer and producer SK Shlomo. You can then place virtual spheres in your play area to interact visually with the various loops and enjoy positional audio.
The AMBEO AR One headphones connect to the 3.5mm jack on the Magic Leap One. They will be available in the United States through the official Magic Leap shop from November 2018 for $250.
