Acer OJO 500: The new headset for Windows Mixed Reality
This new-generation headset has undergone several improvements. What are the most important innovations?
Acer OJO 500 Specifications
This model features two high-resolution 2.89-inch liquid crystal displays with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. In addition, the Acer EYE 500 allows the user to adjust the distance between the screen and pupil using a control dial. This allows the optimum distance to be determined at any time. The system also comes with a 4-meter long cable that gives the user freedom of movement. It is connected to the PC via an HDMI 2.0 and USB 3.0 cable.
One of the great advantages of this Acer OJO 500 is its easy installation in less than 10 minutes. It is designed to synchronize with other objects so that the user can interact with digital objects of mixed reality at any time.
Like the HTC Vive Pro, the OJO 500 has an audio headset in the form of two headphones mounted on short arms that optimally adapt to the wearer’s body morphology. Acer announces a new sound experience by using a sound pipe that optimizes sound diffusion from the VR experience to the user’s ears.
Removable visor, multiple adjustable
The very first great strength of the helmet from its creator is its comfort. The OJO 500 comes with two tires, one flexible (washable) and one rigid where the part with the two screens (2.89 inch, 2880 x 1440 pixels, 90 Hz) is positioned in a couple of easy steps. This allows the lenses to be cleaned quickly, and, above all, the contents can be shared quickly between several carriers without having to disconnect the headphones from the computer (4 m HDMI/USB 3.0 cable). Through the screen from tire to tire.
Acer OJO 500 – Similar to the Sony PSVR, the roll bar of the OJO 500 can be tightened and released with a knurl on the back.
The inside of the helmet is lined with a thick foam covered with a kind of fabric so that the contact of the device with the face is as comfortable as possible.
Do you have to take a break or answer the phone? Just raise your visor to get back in touch with reality. It is mounted on a hinge and can be swiveled upwards.
In addition, there is a physical wheel on the helmet that makes it possible to adjust the distance of the helmet lenses according to the wearer’s pupils (IPD or interpupillary distance). Acer also provides a smartphone app (Acer IPD Meter) and software (Acer IPD Indicator) to fine-tune this setting.
Acer OJO 500 Pricing and Release Date
It is scheduled to be launched in Europe in November, but no specific date has yet been set for this month. The price is around 499 euros but may vary depending on the market.
