A15 Bionic, the new and powerful Apple SoC for iPhone 13

Apple has unveiled the new A15 Bionic processor designed specifically for the iPhone 13 Pro. This new SoC offers high performance and high efficiency and is designed to deliver the best performance for the new display, camera, and video features.

Apple has decided to develop its own SoCs with ARM architecture, which will be optimized for its devices and operating system, however. This will allow the company with the bitten apple to offer solutions that deliver high performance. Moreover, these chips are manufactured on TSMC’s new 5nm node, which is another great advantage.

This new A15 Bionic features six cores, two of which are powerful and four of which are highly efficient. According to Apple, this SoC is up to 50% faster than competing chips and can handle demanding tasks more smoothly and efficiently. It also incorporates a redesigned 5-core GPU that offers up to 50% more performance than competing GPUs.

These aren’t the only innovations, as the new Apple A15 Bionic features a new neural engine with 16 cores. This can perform 15.8 trillion operations per second. Thanks to this computing power, it can perform even faster machine learning calculations. It also features next-generation ISP advances that enable reduced noise and tone mapping.

Apple designed this new SoC to deliver better performance and power efficiency than competing chips. It is based on TSMC’s 5nm technology, which can realize nearly 15 billion transistors. Thanks to this high number of transistors, it can easily handle complex tasks and use the latest technologies in computing.

New high-performance multi-purpose SoC

The iPhone 13 also uses the A15 Bionic, but in a slightly slimmed-down form. The 2 high-performance cores and 4 efficiency cores will remain, but the GPU will be adapted. For this case, 4 cores have been provided, which offer up to 30% more performance than competing solutions. This allows for better visual effects and more realistic lighting in graphically demanding games.

The iPad Mini also gets this A15 Bionic, but with some minor downward adjustments. In this case, the CPU keeps the 6 cores, although they “only” offer up to 40% more performance than the competition. The biggest jump is in the GPU, which retains 5 cores and offers a performance increase of up to 80%.

One of the great strengths of the A15 Bionic is that it has 16 cores for its neural engine. It stands out because it is designed to excel at image recognition and natural language learning. There is a machine learning feature, Live Text, which recognizes text in photos. In addition, this technology provides the ability to add text to photos in seven different languages.
