Since the launch of iOS 11 very recently, we have seen a substantial increase in the number of applications that make use of Apple’s Augmented Reality (ARKit). We have many games and also many useful applications.
Fitness AR
Fitness AR is not a Fitness application in Augmented Reality, but with it, we can visualize three-dimensional maps of the routes that we want to perform in Strava, an application to monitor races and pieces of training.
Use the Strava API to extract the paths and then use the Mapbox SDK to create three-dimensional maps. You can also record the virtual tour to have it saved and watch it at any time.
IKEA Place
Ikea, in a new attempt of an application from where we can try furniture for our house, has also launched a tool based on ARKit that allows us to place furniture of your catalog in our living room or in the room of our house that we want.
It is very useful to know, for example, if an article fits in a certain place (in theory the results and measures are reliable). At the moment it has 2000 products, although they will increase with the time.
Housecraft
It does not belong to any particular store, but this other application allows us to place furniture anywhere we point. It has much more variety and therefore the possibilities are greater.
CARROT Weather
CARROT Weather is very simple but applies very well the concept of Augmented Reality. It shows the weather, the ambient temperature, the possibilities of precipitation, the wind speed, and other interesting data. Let’s say it’s an alternative way of looking at the time.
GIPHY World: AR GIFs + Stickers
This alternative application of Giphy allows to include GIFs in videos that we record with our camera as if they were Instagram stickers, but in movement, with perspective and more advanced.
AR MeasureKit
As useful as it is accurate (as we can check in the upper GIF), with the ARKit measuring kit we can measure everything that passes us by.
TapMeasure
Something more complex and advanced than AR MeasureKit. TapMeasure allows us to measure many more variables and is still just as accurate. We can also make a layout of the walls and generate a 3D model in Sketchup. Or it can also be exported as a CAD file.
