YouTube Announces New Features to Fight False News

The YouTube team announced a series of measures to be implemented on the platform to combat the viralization of fake news.

One of the strategies that will be implemented is to help users find links to last-minute articles in search results and content from authorized sources. That is to say, a preview of this type of articles (not videos) will be shown, with the link to see the complete content in the source platform, as we see in the image:

And the reason for this new dynamic is this:

After a breaking news event, it takes time to verify, produce and publish high-quality videos. Journalists often write articles first to break the news instead of producing videos

An interesting detail is that it will be highlighted that the story or news item is under development so that the user understands that the information may change as the event being covered develops. So users will be able to count on relevant and up-to-date information, instead of finding a video that does not reflect the evolution of events, and can, therefore, contribute to disinformation.

For the time being, this dynamic will only be implemented in the U.S. Users will see links to Wikipedia, Encyclopedia Britannica, among other reliable sources.
