In recent weeks, rumors have been circulating that Xiaomi is preparing a device similar to Amazon’s Fire TV to bring Android TV to those TVs that don’t have intelligent features.
Xiaomi already has experience in introducing Android TV on mainstream TVs thanks to the successful Mi TV Box Media Center, with Mi Box S being one of the most popular among users.
The competition to Fire TV and Chromecast is just around the corner
And although Xiaomi hasn’t officially unveiled its new HDMI stick yet, there are already two online marketing platforms offering it under the name Xiaomi Mi TV Stick, although it’s not yet on sale, which leads us to believe that this device is closer to reality.
Thanks to Gearbest and Geekbuying, we can know the features and price. In this respect, it will share many of the features of the Mi Box S, which was launched last year.
In this sense, it will carry an Amlogic S905 processor in its new Y2 version, the Mali G31 GPU, 2 GB RAM and 8 GB of internal eMMC memory. It will also offer support for DTS-HD and Dolby Stereo Sound, 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2.
At the performance level, it will have a micro-USB port with a power consumption of about 5 W and an HDMI 2.0 port that will allow content to be displayed with a resolution of up to 4K at 60 frames per second. It even has Widevine L1, which allows Netflix content to be displayed without any loss of quality.
As for the system, Android TV will be based on Android 9 and will integrate the Google Assistant, bearing in mind that, as Gearbest itself points out, it is an international version.
As for the price, according to Gearbest, it will be $79.99, although it is most likely to be lowered in due course to confront Amazon’s Fire TV or Google Chromecasts, the most direct competitors.
As in other cases, it’s just a matter of waiting.
