For some time Microsoft has been updating its operating system and offering new platforms with development improvements. However, the company recently confirmed security and quality rollup issues in the July 2018 updates for applications that require the.NET framework and warns users of possible application crashes after the update is installed.
According to the company’s report, some Windows applications using the.NET framework have experienced some errors, some of which have stopped working while others have been unable to start or close abruptly. Several users began reporting these errors after installing the latest update.
As Microsoft mentions in its blog, this is due to a problem with applications that initialize a COM component and run with limited permissions: “The security and quality roll-up updates from July 2018 were released earlier this month. We have received several reports from customers who report applications on Windows that do not start or run correctly after the update is installed. These reports are specific to applications that initialize a COM component and run with restricted permissions.
These patches have been released for all supported versions of Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and its latest version, Windows 10, including the April 10, 2018 update. Once users started reporting these problems, Microsoft decided to remove the updates.
We have stopped distributing the July 2018.NET Framework updates in Windows Update and are actively working to repair and forward the updates for this month.
It is recommended that users uninstall the patches as a quick fix if they have installed the update that was released earlier this month, they have also reported that they have blocked these patches to prevent new users from presenting these inconveniences. Microsoft regrets the problems caused and explains them:
As a team, we regret that this version was sent with this error. This release has been tested with our regular and extensive testing process. In investigating this problem, we found that we have a test hole for the specific combination of COM activation and restricted permissions, including imitation.
Meanwhile, the company prompts its users to uninstall problematic updates from their computer so that applications can run again without problems.
Microsoft has not mentioned when it will release the patch to fix this bug, but hopefully before August 14 when it will release another set of patches for the system.
