What is Windows 10 Cloud?
Windows 10 Cloud is Microsoft’s answer to Google’s Chrome OS, designed to run on affordable, low-powered laptops. It is not necessarily connected to cloud services but is rather a streamlined version of Windows 10.
Integration with Azure Services
The term “cloud Windows” first appeared in Windows 10 SDK build version 15003. While it was initially thought to involve interaction with Microsoft’s cloud services, there’s speculation about the possibility of a completely new cloud service.
Microsoft’s Azure cloud provides both platform as a service (PaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS), leveraging a global network of data centers. However, Windows 10 Cloud might focus on delivering a lightweight Windows experience, primarily supporting Universal Windows applications available in the Windows Store.
Features and Launch Date
Windows 10 Cloud may share similarities with Windows RT, a version designed for ARM-based CPUs. Like Windows 8.1 with Bing, it is expected to target cost-effective laptops. This lightweight OS will compete with Chromebooks, offering more functionality than Chrome OS while consuming fewer resources.
Microsoft has not announced an official release date for Windows 10 Cloud. However, speculations suggest that it might debut in April 2017 alongside the Windows 10 Creators Update.
