Microsoft releases some more information on Windows 10 ARM during BUILD 2017: the new release will run legacy apps for x86 processors and old Win32 applications from the Internet.

Microsoft is preparing two new versions of Windows 10: the first is Windows 10 S. That is a Windows simplified release for the Education market. Which can only run apps downloaded from the Windows Store to improve safety, performance and the software update process. While the other is a release of Windows 10 designed to only run on ARM-based processors .

The idea was presented for the first time last year, Windows 10 ARM was revived again at this time. And  thanks to an update on its development provided by Microsoft during BUILD 2017. The Redmond company has not only confirmed that Windows 10 on ARM not only perform computer developed legacy app with x86 processors. But you can also download any old Win32 application from the Internet , install it and run it on a PC with the new OS.

In other words, Windows 10 S will turn on devices with ARM or x86 processors supporting only the Windows Store applications. While Windows 10 ARM will run only on ARM-based devices with support for any application.

Win32 Applications on smartphones and tablets

The developers therefore will not need to convert their apps because Windows 10 will integrate an ARM emulator. That will allow you to run Win32 applications on an ARM system. And Redmond give it a try by downloading a file 7zip from the Internet. And installing it smoothly on a terminal with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835.

For Windows 10 ARM just this SoC will be one of the first to support ARM Windows 10. But, although it is one of the most powerful chips in circulation, it is not as fast as other high-end Intel or AMD processors. So do not expect comparable performance in the video rendering or gaming.
