Are you ready for translucent? Or made of wood? Or maybe…. Snake skin? This is the promise of Gorilla Glass 6, the new generation of Gorilla Glass, but what does it mean? While glass smartphones can look attractive, there are a number of obstacles to their use.
This new generation technology is used by Apple and Samsung and has significantly improved impact and scratch resistance. But perhaps the most exciting thing about it is that our phone can look and feel like nothing more than a piece of glass.
During a press event at Sunnyvale Company, they showed us some of their new designs that add realistic textures like the already mentioned crystal. This model is called “Vibrant” and was first introduced in 2016 with the promise that the mobile phone can print high-resolution images directly onto the screen.
However, newer prototypes have taken this concept to a new level. The technique combines images engraved on the glass to imitate different types of textures such as wood, stone, marble or even snakeskin. The result is that it is the crystal that looks or feels nothing but the crystal itself.

It’s amazing how these sample designs feel like the material they’re supposed to imitate. Wood” feels like wood, while “snakeskin” has small scales. But it’s not just about its textures, Corning has also thought about experimenting with translucent glass if the manufacturers want to show their guts.
Although the idea is very, very appealing, glass smartphones are on a fine line between a possible victory and a total dump – what good is it if it’s transparent if I have to put a cover on it so it doesn’t break? This can be one of the most controversial reasons they can cause. For example, we were just talking about what an adventurer is looking for on his mobile phone, and I don’t think it’s the best option. At this moment we just have to wait for them to further perfect their material and develop the design.
