The Velux roof windows become smart. This is made possible by the partnership between Velux and Netatmo, on the basis of which Velux can now present a new control system for its automatic roof windows with sensors from Netatmo. If there is too little air or too much humidity in the room, ventilation is automatic. The smart control unit can now be ordered and can be integrated via plug-and-play.
If you live under the roof and the automatic windows of the Velux-Integra series are installed in the attic apartment, the new control unit called Velux Active can take control of the room climate. The control unit contains the well-known sensors from Netatmo. They constantly monitor temperature, humidity and CO2 values. The roof windows can be automatically controlled based on threshold values. Opening and closing windows and shading with roller shutters are part of the scenarios to improve the room climate and prevent overheating.
In addition to automated scenarios, the windows can be activated via HomeKit via voice control. From Velux’s point of view, this is the first smart home system in the global window business that manages to combine a smartphone application, a room climate sensor, an absence switch and an Internet gateway with advanced algorithms for fully automatic control of roof windows, blinds and shutters.
Integration in Apple HomeKit makes the windows remote controllable if an iPad or Apple TV is configured as the base station. Voice control with Siri can then also be taught in. Located at the front door, the wireless switch for absence makes it easy to leave the house. Pressing the switch for absence activates a preset sequence that closes all automatic roof windows in your house and activates the secured ventilation mode only via the VELUX ventilation flaps. The same absence of functionality is included in the app.
The room climate control package can already be ordered from Netatmo’s online shop. Consisting of two switches and a sensor, the set costs around 250 euros.
