The USB 4 standard has been announced officially. It is a standard based on Thunderbolt 3, so it uses its advantages. Its speed will undoubtedly be an important point, since it can reach transfer rates of up to 40 Gbit/s. This doubles the speed of USB 3.2.
In addition, it has been confirmed that with this new standard we will have charging capacities of up to 100W. While we have to wait for its market launch, which will only take place in 2021.
The fact that USB 4 will have these speeds is of great importance as it is expected to reach Thunderbolt 3 in this way. Because the Intel standard has reached this speed long ago. It is therefore proposed as a good alternative in this respect. It has already been confirmed that the two companies will coexist in the market. So it will be the brands that make the decision for one or the other.
As we mentioned earlier, the arrival of USB 4 will take some time. As this standard is ready, as announced today, we will have to wait until it reaches computers, laptops or peripherals all over the world.
It is expected to be commercially available by 2021. So brands will have time to work on their creation. But we’ll see if the data currently being discussed will make way or not!
