The Messages app web client, now available to all users

Last week we echoed the launch of the Messaging app’s web client, which enables the sending and receiving of SMS/MMS messages, and the establishment of multimedia chat conversations with other contacts thanks to the integration of RCS (Rich Communication Services) technology via desktop computers.

Now, this new web client is becoming available to any user who wants it, as Google engineer Justin Uberti pointed out through his Twitter profile. To do this, you need to have the latest version of Android Messages installed.

In my case, I noticed that I used another app for SMS messages, not the official Google app, so I went to Google Play Store to install Android Messaging.

Once we have this app, we only have to go to the icon of the three dots, located in the upper right corner, and select the option Messages for the web, for which we will be given the tool that will allow us to scan the QR code that we have in the web client to pair it with our phone.

From then on we can now send and receive SMS and MMS messages, and have multimedia chat conversations with other contacts in our calendar, as long as they have the same app installed.

At this point, it is interesting to pay attention to the suggestion of using WiFi to avoid spending mobile data that the web client indicates on its homepage since the data consumption will be made through our mobile phone.

Note that the web client does not have all the options available in the Android application, so we cannot perform actions such as blocking contacts or using the GIF browser, among other functions.

With this move, Google hopes to get it right once and for all, after several initiatives, it has taken in the messaging segment that has not yet conquered users.
