Windows 10 is the latest version of the operating system that Microsoft aims to market publicly. However, there are already numerous rumors that Microsoft is planning major changes for the desktop system. With Windows Core OS and the components for Andromeda and Polaris, Windows 10 should become more modular, lighter and more adapted for new form factors.
Microsoft’s Surface Hub 2 already runs on Windows Core OS together with the Aruba Composer. Officially, it is still called Windows 10, although there are major technical differences to the previous Surface Hub system. Microsoft itself does not speak of these changes taking place in the background.
The two partners Synaptics and AMD, on the other hand, have less of a problem in providing references to Microsoft’s operating system plans. In a recent press release, the two companies talk about new fingerprint sensor technologies for the “next generation” of Microsoft operating systems. Synaptics and AMD have worked on a solution that will provide highly secure biometric authentication for business and consumer PCs based on the next generation of AMD Ryzen Mobile processors.
The mobile Ryzen chips are by no means intended for Andromeda or similar devices but are traditional chips for laptops. What is particularly surprising is that the two companies speak in their press release of a Microsoft operating system of the next generation. With Windows Core OS there should also be major changes for the desktop within the Polaris framework, but there are only a few details on this so far.
