Street Fighter 2 AR lands in augmented reality on your streetsStreet Fighter 2 in AR is an independent project that brings the famous video game of combat in augmented reality with the ARKit. Unfortunately, it is not intended for the general public.
That should interest fans of the Street Fighter 2 saga. A developer has posted the video of a version of Street Fighter 2 in augmented reality. If the concept seems particularly successful and promising, the game will probably never happen unfortunately in the App Store.
Street Fighter 2 in augmented reality: an inspiring video
Did you play for hours with Dhalsim, Zangief, Ryu or Chun-Li? Then this video published on Youtube should interest you. It was designed by Abhishek Singh, a developer who had already enjoyed the augmented reality remake of The Ring or even Super Mario Bros in augmented reality. Here we see the game fighters fighting in the streets. Real streets. A marvel possible thanks to the use of ARKIT Apple.
Street Fighter 2 AR lands in augmented reality on your streets
For the detail, the developer chose to use the style of Street Fighter 2 but the characters of Street Fighter IV. The idea, you meet another player in the street and go. Like an arena duel in Pokémon Go but using real scenery, street a table or parking. Some virtual bonus additions are also possible as a car that your characters can destroy. You can also turn around the fight. We regret what looks like latency that gives a battle a little soft.
An inspiration for studios?
Well, all that is fine. But, you guessed it, it’s too good to be true. A project of this magnitude would have had the right to a lot of communication. It is only a personal project. Asked by our colleagues from Cent.com, Singh explains that it was to remember the good memories of his youth as a player. But, for this project, he does not have rights or licenses. Street Fighter 2 augmented reality is not yet ready to arrive on the App Store. Too bad since the game works according to its creator and this kind of multiplayer experience does not exist in augmented reality yet.
It remains only to hope that the success of this video inspires the video game studios. Basic, find a good fighting game on mobile is a small challenge. If we add augmented reality to the equation, it is probably mission impossible. But, ARKit Apple and Google ARCore could give ideas to Bandai, Capcom or Namco. Perhaps we will soon have the right to the official games of franchises. Like Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and The Walking Dead arrive why stop there?
