Spotify has been in the news this week because of the many changes they have made to their free plan. Now, the Swedish company is once again in the limelight, but in this case because of a price increase. At least for users in Norway. In the Scandinavian country, the prices of various tariffs will rise by 10%.
Spotify raises its prices in Norway and could do so in more countries
Users with premium accounts, students or family will be affected by this price increase on the music streaming platform. In addition, it is not excluded that the price increase will reach other countries as well.
Price hikes on Spotify?
This price increase on the platform will be effective from May onwards. New subscribers to the platform will face this increase from May, although users who already have an account will not have to start paying more until July. So you can enjoy a couple of months at the normal price. If the response is positive (if they do not lose customers), they consider raising prices in more markets.
With this decision, Spotify hopes to start making a profit. Something of importance now that the Swedish company has gone public. Moreover, so far, they have never made a profit in the years they have been active. Mainly because of the high costs of the royalties.
There are currently over 70 million paid users on Spotify. A figure they hope to increase soon, in addition to this possible price increase. We will see if the platform adds new services to help justify this increase in costs.
