Robot Sophia, the world’s first android, opened the Taipei Digital Innovation Forum on Thursday with a speech in Chinese on the digital transformation and its critical impact on the future of humanity.
Jan Hung-tze, Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Business Cooperation Forum’s Digital Innovation Working Group, emphasized in his opening speech that Sophia is a “metaphor for the new and brave world we are reaching,” of which “The Asia Pacific will be the fastest growing region.
Sophia was founded in Hong Kong in 2015 and became world famous last year when Saudi Arabia granted her citizenship, the first time in the world that an android has ever received a passport.
The two-day forum, attended by Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, will feature keynote speeches and panel discussions on topics such as artificial intelligence, technology, and digital innovation.
The events will be moderated by businessmen and journalists to present their expert views and forecasts on the future, the organization said in a statement.
