Sony reveals new details about the Playstation VR2: it will feature 120Hz 2K displays, haptic motors, and eye-tracking

At the 2022 CES conference, Sony revealed some details about PlayStation VR2, the new virtual reality headset for the PlayStation 5 that will be available in conjunction with the new VR2 Sense controllers.

The VR2 headset will use two 2000×2040 resolution OLED displays and achieve a 110-degree field of view. It will also support 4K HDR and achieve frame rates between 90Hz and 120Hz, depending on the game. The device also has multiple cameras to track the movements of the head and the controller, avoiding the use of external sensors that complicate setup and installation.

In addition to these improvements in graphics quality, the VR2 headset will follow the idea of DualSense haptic feedback, which has built-in haptic motors that generate vibrations that simulate events in the game. This can be used to simulate objects approaching the character or the sensation of an increased pulse when hiding from a threat, further increasing the immersion of virtual reality.

As if all that wasn’t enough, PlayStation VR2 also features 3D audio and eye-tracking. By detecting eye movements, the device allows you to interact with the gaming environment as if it were real life. The new PS VR2 Sense features haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for control.

In addition to these new features, Sony also announced the first game that will be available for the new device. This is Horizon Call of The Mountain, a VR-exclusive experience that is part of the Horizon universe and is being developed exclusively for PS VR2.

Sony has not yet announced a release date for PS VR2, nor has it mentioned whether it will be compatible with games from the first version of PS VR. More information will surely follow in the coming months when the final design of the device will also be revealed.
